Say goodbye to stressed muscles, chronic pain, and too-tight tendons. Feel good all over with the magic touch of massage therapy.
Do you suffer from chronic pain? Do you spend all day at a desk, hunched behind a computer? Are you looking for a way to de-stress and unwind? Or do you just want to feel pampered and simply marvellous? Massage therapy is a great way to revive and energise a tired, desk-bound body.
Why massage therapy?
The key to pain relief is understanding your body. Along with yoga practice, massage therapy helps to develop better body awareness (it feels good, too!).
When you have a home massage session with us, we focus on three principal types of treatment:
Do you have sore or tight muscles? Do you suffer from a sports-related injury? Remedial massage therapy can relax and soften injured and overused muscles, reduce spasms and cramping, increase joint flexibility, reduce recovery time, improve range-of-motion and decrease discomfort for patients with lower back pain – for starters.
During a a treatment, your therapist manipulates your body’s soft tissues (sometimes using movement and techniques like cupping) to remove damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions from injury and encourage movement and circulation to support your body’s natural healing.
Your current condition will assessed to give you a treatment that is most suitable based your own individual needs and treatment response.
Enhance posture, movement and body awareness.
Do you spend your day at a desk staring at a computer screen? The physiological effects of poor posture can take some time to register on your pain threshold. When you hunch forward, your body isn’t properly aligned. The result? Some muscles work harder and longer, and others get weaker.
Over time, you build up a tolerance to this pain, but all it takes is a little nudge or accident to push you over the edge - bad habits over a lifetime can lead to a host of problems, from high blood pressure (yes, you read right) to osteoarthritis.
Because our joints and muscles are connected in kinetic chains, a weakness or pain that shows up in one area of the body could actually be caused by an issue in another part of the body.
Postural analysis can be invaluable in identifying your areas of tightness and weakness, and in setting goals to correct it. We use this in conjunction with remedial massage so that the massage can give you a boost towards postural change, and you will be given simple remedial exercises to do at home.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Experts predict that stress causes 80-90% of illnesses. The solution? Allow yourself to relax and unwind more often. This is easier said than done, and you might benefit from Manual Lymphatic Drainage if you:
- keep getting sick,
- suffer from stress
- have hormonal problems (which is likely if you are stressed)
- suffer from insomnia
- are preparing your body for pregnancy (good lymph flow helps hormonal function)
- feel bloated, or have oedema (fluid retention, like puffy ankles)
- are recovering from cancer
The lymphatic system is our body’s drainage system - a network of vessels and nodes throughout the body that drain fluid from tissue. Unlike blood, lymph doesn’t have a pump - it relies on muscle movement. Lymphatic flow can be limited or restricted by lack of physical activity, stress, fatigue, or emotional trauma.
This massage mimics the light rhythmical movements of lymphatic fluids in the body. It stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest response) and you might find you have your best night’s sleep in ages! Your jeans might be miraculously looser after the treatment too. Fluid retention gone.
